U is a series of workshops collaborating with Peepshow Inc’s designers and theatre-makers to create a short season of interactive performances as part of the 2011 Melbourne Fringe Festival at Signal.
U invites young people aged 13-17 to participate in these free workshops. No previous experience necessary but numbers are strictly limited and bookings essential.

U Workshop Part 1: Creating a Cardboard World
1-4 Oct 10am – 1pm
Young artists will work with designers to imagine, design and construct an interactive performance environment out of recycled cardboard. Participants are encouraged to attend all 4 sessions as the construction will continue throughout the workshop.

U Workshop Part 2: Performance-making
6-9 Oct 10am-4pm (performances daily at 3pm)
In U ordinary characters finds themselves in extraordinary situations. Young performers and theatre-makers will work with a director to create theatrical pieces within this interactive space, resulting in a daily performance. Participants can attend one or more (or even all!) of these day-long workshops which will create and present a new work each day.
nb. Workshops are free but please BYO lunch.

Come and see the fruits of our labour. Expect the unexpected. Each day workshop participants will present their work in a showing-performance for family, friends and anyone who is interested in these 4 brand new works. Tickets are free but seating is limited so bookings are essential and latecomers may not be admitted, please arrive on time to avoid disappointment.
Please note: performances may not be suitable for audiences under 13 years of age.
